Common Admission Test (CAT 2018) is one of the competitive entrance examinations for pursuing postgraduate programmes in Business Administration.CAT 2018 national level examination is conducted by the IIMs on the rotation basis. It is the gateway for admission to 19 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and various B-schools located across the country. Every year lacks of candidates appear in the CAT examination.The students who wants to appear the examination first check the eligibility criteria.

IIM CAT 2018 eligibility criteria:

Educational Qualification;
  • The candidate should have the graduation Degree from a recognized University.
  • Candidate of the general category should have the 50% marks in the Graduation.
  • The candidates of the reserved category should have the minimum 45% marks.
CAT 2017 Eligibility Reservation Criteria:

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 50 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA awarded by a recognised university or educational institute as incorporated by an Act of the Parliament or State legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. For the reserved category candidates, such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD), the minimum percentage to be secured in Bachelor’s Degree is 45 per cent.
Candidates appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply. However, they will be given provisional admission only till the time they submit a certificate from the Principal / Registrar of their University/institution (issued on or before the date as stipulated by the respective IIM) stating that they have completed all the requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.

During the time of application, candidates need to fulfill any one of the following three conditions:
  •  Completed Bachelor’s Degree with requisite percentage of marks
  •  Completed Professional Degree with requisite percentage of marks
  •  Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s Degree with requisite marks percentage
The calculation of the marks percentage will be done on the basis of the practice followed by the respective University/Institute. In case the Institute/University offers grades/CGPA, the conversion to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure as certified by the respective University/Institution. In case there is no such conversion scheme followed by the institute, the equivalence will be calculated by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA, and multiplying the result with 100.According to the legal requirements, IIMs and other government institutes have to follow the reservation criteria as given below:
15 per cent of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC)
7.5 per cent of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST)
27 per cent seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layers
Three per cent seats are reserved for Persons With Disability (PWD) candidates. The three categories of disability are: a) low vision blindness, b) hearing impairment and c) loco motor disability/cerebral palsy. This provision is applicable if the candidate suffers from any of the listed disabilities to the extent of not less than 40 per cent, as certified by a medical authority as prescribed and explained in the said PWD Act, 1995 (Section 39).
The candidates belonging to the reserved categories have to score minimum cutoff percentile at CAT 2017 along with the eligibility criteria in order to be shortlisted for the admission process.

  • General and NC- OBC category: Rs. 1700/-
  • For SC/ ST and PWD : Rs. 850/-
  • SC/ ST and PWD category must upload a copy of SC/ ST and PWD certificates at the time of registration.
  • Application fee will not be refunded.

CAT Application Form 2018 Notification Exam Date

CAT is Common Admission test a national level management aptitude test conducted by IIM(Indian Institutes of Management).CAT online registration starts in the month of August and examination will be conducted in the month of November.Results will be declared in the month of January.

Important dates for CAT Examination 2018:

About Indian Institute of Management
The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are a group of 20 public, autonomous institutes of management education and research in India. They primarily offer postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programs. The establishment of IIMs was initiated by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission.

How to Apply CAT Examination/Registration:
  • The Candidates who wants to appear the examination can register for CAT examination through online on official website
  • CAT 2018 Application Form will be declare from the mid of August 2018.
  • Go to the website of CAT and click on Registration.
  • Enter the registration information and register to your profile like date of birth and Name.
  • The new login “User ID and Password”will be generated by registration and check your email ID and mobile no. which is registered.
  • Fill all the requested information like personal details, academic details, courses applying for and other relevant information.
  • Upload your digital images of photo, required documents and signature, it must be in prescribed format.
  • Select programme names.
  • Now provide exam city preferences, you are allowed to select maximum four cities.
  • Do the payment of requisite fee by using Credit Card (Visa / Master), debit card, Credit Card (American Express) and Debit Card (Visa / Master). Application fee for General / NC-OBC is Rs. 1600/- and for SC/ST /PWD (DA) category it is Rs. 800/-.
  • Once you did the payment, a conformation email will be sent to your email ID.
  • Applicants are needed to pay fee via online method only.
  • Take hard copy of the filled application form for future references.
CAT 2018 eligibility criteria:
  • Qualification:Applicants must have a UG degree in any courses from any applicable college as well as university.
  • Percentage Required:The candidates should have minimum 50% marks or its equivalent CGPA (45% for candidates belonging to SC/ST/DA/PwD category applicants.
  • Candidates those are appearing for final year graduation or its equivalent or awaiting for their result are eligible to apply. In this case, candidates will have to submit the necessary document latest by June 30, 2018.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DI & LR)

The total duration of the test is 180 minutes or 3 hours. However, each section of the test has a time limit of 1 hour each.

Negative Marking:For multiple choice questions, 1 mark will be minus for incorrect response and for questions additional than MCQs no marks will be subtracted.

Syllabus for CAT examination:
  • Applicants may practices with the mock test to know the exam pattern and syllabus of CAT.
  • The syllabus including of 4 sections, i.e. Mathematics or Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, English and Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning.
  • Questions will be come from the above listed topics/subjects.
  • To perform better in the CAT 2018 examination, applicants are suggested to analyses the completed syllabus for their CAT examination preparations.

CAT results will be declared by IIMs.A large number of candidates apply for the exam every year.Indian Institutes of Management conducts the Common Admission Test every year to select the candidates into the management courses.The candidates who wants to take admission into the MBA they must be qualify in the CAT examination.The Marks you have obtained in the CAT Exam can be considered for the admission into the the business school. IIMs are the top most Management colleges of the India.Very few seats in the IIMs. So only this reason little number of candidates can get the admission into the colleges.

IIM CAT result will be declared after successfully examination conducted by the IIM.The students who appeared the examination can check the CAT results here or official site after releasing results.CAT application forms will be declared in august.The students who want to appeared the CAT examination fill the application form and pay the fee.Before examinations candidate gets the admit card,download it and attend the examination.the candidates that who appeared CAT examination cannot get admission into the colleges on the basis of the written test candidates have to go interview.The candidates have to go through the interview.After that those candidates who has been get cut off marks in the written and interview only those will be able to get admission into the colleges.

As per Government of India norms, IIMs reserve 15% seats for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates and 27% seats for NC-OBC candidates. 3% seats are also reserved for Persons with Disabilities.Candidates will be selected on the basis of Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
